SA TV Presenter Jeffrey Zikhali Issued Warning On Last Facebook Post Before His Death

South Africans are reeling in shock after the body of TV presenter Jeffrey Zikhali was found on the side of a busy road following what appeared to be a botched hijacking.

According to the broadcaster, Zikhala was gunned down while en route to his home in Empangeni, KwaZulu-Natal.

According to the SABC, Jeffrey Zikhali – a TV presenter, news anchor, and former government spokesperson – was killed on Friday night by unknown gunmen.

His body was thrown out of the vehicle and discovered on Saturday morning along the R102.

Zikhali, who worked at the SABC, eNCA, and BBC, had been travelling home to KZN when the tragedy struck.

Police spokesperson Robert Netshiunda said a murder investigation had been opened.

He said: “Police were on routine patrol when they stumbled upon a body, cell phone, and a driver’s license, which assisted in identifying the man. He was declared dead on the scene.

“The motive of the killing and the suspect are unknown at this stage.”

Meanwhile, Jeffrey Zikhali had been active on his Facebook account in the lead-up to his untimely death.

Just hours before the hijacking occurred, the seasoned TV star shared a “warning” about a tree branch that had fallen and obstructed the R74 where he had been travelling.

A day before, he shared pictures of damaged roads in the Pietermaritzburg area.

A week before his death, Jeffrey Zikhali shared a bittersweet post about his mother, who died last year.

He shared: “Make sure your old mom doesn’t have to wait any longer. Visit her, love her, hug the one who loved you like no one else ever will.

“Because the brain gets old, but the heart of a mother never gets old. No person will love you like your mother.”
