NOT AGAIN! Haulage truck’s wheel dislodges, kills Chinhoyi medical doctor as it did traffic cop

A medical doctor from Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital tragically died on Wednesday afternoon when a wheel dislodged from a moving haulage truck and struck him near Orange Grove along the Harare-Chirundu highway.

Police released a statement on Wednesday clarifying that the doctor, identified as Dr Tinotenda Madzima (30), was struck by the wheel in the morning, not in the afternoon as initially reported.

The fatal incident occurred at about 0700 hours at the 116-kilometre peg along Harare-Chirundu Road. Dr. Madzima was walking along the road when he was hit on the back by a wheel that had dislodged from a Scania haulage truck travelling towards Harare. Unfortunately, Dr Madzima succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police reports a fatal road traffic accident involving a Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital Government Medical Officer, Dr Tinotenda Madzima (30) which occurred on 03/01/24 at about 0700 hours at the 116 kilometre peg along Harare-Chirundu Road. The doctor was walking along the road when he was hit on the back by a wheel which had dislodged from a Scania haulage truck which was travelling towards Harare. The victim died on the spot,” the police announced on X,

This unfortunate incident bears a haunting resemblance to another mishap that unfolded on New Year’s Eve. On that occasion, a female police officer stationed at a roadblock along the Harare-Mutare highway met a similar fate when a wheel accidentally dislodged from a moving truck.

In an official statement released on Monday via their official social media handle, police identified the deceased police officer as Constable Mironga of Marondera Traffic and provided additional details. Unfortunately, Constable Mironga passed away upon admission to a hospital, and the tragic incident occurred at the 51 km mark along the bustling Harare-Mutare highway.

“The ZRP confirms the unfortunate death of a Police officer at the 51-kilometre peg along Harare-Mutare Road when a haulage truck registration number ACZ 3265, owned by Shereni Transport, dislodged a trailer wheel. The wheel hit the female police officer who was standing on the left side of the road. She passed on, on admission at Borradale Hospital,” police said.
