Oscar Pistorius Is Back Home on Parole, Confirms Correctional Services Department

Paralympian Oscar Pistorius has been released on parole after spending eight years in Pretoria’s Atteridgeville Correctional Centre for the murder of his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius was initially convicted of culpable homicide but was later sentenced to 13 years and five months for murder after two State appeals.

He has maintained that he believed Steenkamp was an intruder. Pistorius will be under parole conditions, and the specific details have not been released.

Steenkamp’s mother, June Steenkamp, stated that the parole conditions affirmed their belief in the South African justice system.

Oscar Pistorius is now under the care of his uncle in Pretoria.
