SASSA Releases 2024 Social Grant Payment Dates and Addresses Outstanding January Payments
South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) has unveiled the payment dates for social grants in 2024, providing beneficiaries with a clear schedule for their monthly financial planning.
The agency disburses various permanent grants each month, including the Older Persons pension grant, Disability grant, War Veterans grant, Care Dependency grant, Foster Child grant, Child Support grant, Child Support grant Top-Up, and Grant-in-aid. These grants are typically paid in the first week of every month.
For February 2024, the payment dates are as follows:
- Older Persons Grant: 2 February 2024
- Disability Grants: 5 February 2024
- Children’s Grants: 6 February 2024
March 2024 dates are as follows:
- Older Persons Grant: 5 March 2024
- Disability Grants: 6 March 2024
- Children’s Grants: 7 March 2024
It’s important to note that SASSA grant payments are not processed on public holidays or weekends. If the second day of the month falls on a weekend or public holiday, the grant will be disbursed on the next working day, following the payment schedule.
SASSA has yet to publish the full payment dates for 2024. The types of grants include support for individuals over 60 years old (Older Persons Grant), assistance for individuals with disabilities (Disability Grants), and aid for the well-being of children (Children’s Grants). Beneficiaries can collect their grants at various payment points, including ATMs and retail stores such as Pick n Pay, Checkers, Shoprite, and Boxer.
Additionally, SASSA confirmed that unpaid January 2024 grants will be paid during the February 2024 payment cycle. The non-payment of over 150,000 grants in January was attributed to discrepancies in beneficiary details, such as mismatched ID numbers, incorrect banking details, and changes in grant payment methods. SASSA suspended these payments to ensure accuracy and prevent incorrect distribution of grants.
