DJ Sumbody’s friend DJ Vetty shot, family hide his whereabout
Seunkie Mokubung, famously known as DJ Vettys, is currently at an undisclosed hospital after he was shot coming from a gig. his family cannot piece together who might want to hurt him.
In a statement, his management confirmed that he was involved in an unfortunate incident following a shooting on the evening of Monday as he was going to a gig.
“Thankfully, he survived, however, he is in critical condition and currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital,” the statement reads. “DJ Vettys’ family and management would like to thank everyone who has reached out with concern and asked that they continue to pray for his recovery.”
Speaking on behalf of his management and family, a woman who only identified herself as Ipeleng says, “DJ Vettys was with three other people in the car when he was shot.”
She added that he has never been involved in anything dubious before to make him a target. “Never, ever in any way, has anything like this happened to him. It happened in the Pretoria West area, and he was with three other people in the car.
Everyone survived. However, I cannot confirm if the other people were shot, but they are okay as well.”
Ipeleng says he will recover but that they cannot disclose where he is receiving treatment. “He is okay, he is recovering nicely at a secret location.”
Without revealing how many times he was shot, Ipeleng says the family is very protective after the incident and will be opening a case.
“We don’t want to share how many times he was shot for safety reasons.” She also says they have no clue who would harm him.
“To be honest, we don’t know who would want to harm him. He is an honest guy who just DJs and pushes his business. That is why at this point, we are trying to keep his location under wraps because we don’t know who would want to harm him.”
The incident happened just days after the shooting and killing of famous Tshwane DJ, Skinny Deep, real name Duduetsang Gift Maluleka in Soshanguve, Tshwane on Monday, 29 January.
DJ Vettys was friends with the late DJ Sumbody, real name Oupa John Sefoka, who died in Joburg on 20 November 2022. DJ Sumbody was killed in a hail of bullets along with another passenger while on his way to an event. His case has still not yet been solved and there have been disputes over his businesses.
