Grade one teacher dies in accident

A collision on the N1 south on Tuesday afternoon, just past the Brakfontein interchange in Centurion claimed the life of 30-year-old Michelle Nel, a beloved Gr. 1 teacher from Lydenburg Primary School.

The 30-year-old was reportedly traveling in the car with her mother and two-year-old daughter when the tragic accident happened.

According to an article published by Lowvelder, Nel, her mother, Barbara du Plooy, and her two-year-old daughter, Carli, were all together in the car when the accident happened.

It is understood that she was thrown from the vehicle. She and her unborn baby suffered serious injuries. Her mother and Carli suffered minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Despite immediate medical attention, a pregnant woman succumbed to her injuries before she could be airlifted to a level 1 trauma facility.

The circumstances surrounding the accident are still not clear.

Nel was due to give birth to her and her husband Jaco’s baby boy, Christiaan, next month.

She had been a teacher at the school for two years.
