Khama Billiat becomes highest paid in Zimbabwe but far lesser than he got at Kaizer Chiefs

The Premier Soccer League of Zimbabwe saw an exciting development when Khama Billiat’s salary was revealed, propelling him to the top of the league’s salary bracket.

The former star of Kaizer Chiefs Football Club has signed a one-year contract with Yadah Stars Football Club, which is his first local football contract after an impressive career that spanned over ten years in South Africa, where he displayed his skills with notable teams like Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, and ultimately Kaizer Chiefs.

Billiat’s return to Zimbabwe on Tuesday set the stage for his eagerly anticipated comeback. Despite significant interest from prominent clubs like Dynamos and Manica Diamonds, it was Yadah Stars Football Club that emerged triumphant in the bidding war, capturing Billiat’s signature in a surprising twist.

Initially, Khama Billiat’s team and Dynamos had agreed to a sign-on fee of US$20,000. However, a minor disagreement arose regarding the payment schedule, as the club proposed a split payment of US$10,000 upfront and the remaining sum in June. Billiat, on the other hand, expressed his preference for receiving the full amount immediately.

It was at this critical juncture that Scott Sakupwanya, a shareholder at Yadah FC, made a move and presented Khama with an even more appealing proposition than what Manica Diamonds had put forward.

Under the revised agreement, Khama Billiat is poised to earn an estimated US$5,000 (approximately R94,500) per month. To put this into perspective, it’s worth noting that Billiat reportedly earned R800,000 per month during his tenure with Kaizer Chiefs. Yadah Stars Football Club, who narrowly avoided relegation on the final day of the 2023 season, also demonstrated their commitment by providing Billiat with a sign-on fee of US$20,000.
