Orlando Pirates Goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi Hijacked, Held Hostage

Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi was hijacked Thursday night in Thokoza Ekurhuleni, Gauteng.

Sources close to the case suggest the shot-stopper is still being held hostage, along with the driver.

Authorities are working to locate the hijackers and secure the safe return of the hostage. Buthelezi was driving a Grey VW with registration number HW24NRGP.

Buthelezi has been at Pirates since the beginning of the 2023/24 DStv Premiership season after joining the Buccaneers from TS Galaxy.

The 25-year-old got a chance to introduce himself to the club after Sipho Chaine’s injury last year during a match against Cape Town Spurs.

This is not the first time Melusi Buthelezi experienced such a horrific ordeal.

While playing for TS Galaxy, Buthelezi was also a victim of hijackings while travelling with his brother and suffered stab wounds in 2022.
