Two most wanted armed robbers apprehended at toll gate

In a notable breakthrough, two most wanted armed robbers were arrested at a tollgate along the Mashava-Mhandamabwe route.

Jacob Danda (36) and Michael Moyo, also known as Joseph Ushe (27), were apprehended on Monday at the tollgate.

Their arrest resulted in the recovery of property worth over US$19,000.

Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson for Masvingo Province, stated that Moyo and Danda were the first to be apprehended after accepting a ride from a motorist headed to Bulawayo. The vigilant motorist grew suspicious and promptly alerted the police, leading to the arrest of the suspects at the tollgate.

Inspector Dhewa revealed that Danda disclosed information about Moyo and their other two accomplices Tinashe Marufu (23) and Prince Ncube (37).

Reportedly, the 4 armed robbers had recently raided a house in the Zimre Park suburb armed with a machete, robbing the occupants of their valuables under the cover of darkness on Sunday night.

Following their robbery, Moyo and Danda proceeded to Bulawayo while Marufu and Ncube travelled to Zaka. Thanks to the initial arrests, the police were able to apprehend the other two suspects in Zaka.

According to The Herald, the suspects have been linked to 19 robbery cases and two incidents of housebreaking and unlawful entry in various suburbs of Masvingo City, including Victoria Ranch, Rhodene, Clovery, and Zimre Park. The criminal activities are said to have taken place not only in Masvingo but also in other towns and cities across the country since the end of last month.

The modus operandi of the robbers allegedly involved wielding machetes and knives as they targeted victims, robbing them of cash, laptops, clothing, and footwear.
