Three Khama Billiat signed jerseys sold for R475k

Former Kaizer Chiefs player Khama Billiat’s signed jerseys were bought for a staggering R475k during his unveiling at Zimbabwean club Yadah FC.

Khama made headlines when he joined Yadah FC, owned by Prophet Walter Magaya, last week. The 33-year-old midfielder, who had a stellar career in South Africa, was unveiled as Yadah’s marquee signing on 29 February at the Heart Stadium in Harare.

Thousands of fans and celebrities attended the event, which also featured a dinner gala and an auction of Billiat’s jerseys. Three of his signed jerseys were auctioned for R475k (US$25k).

Two jerseys went for R119 000 (US$10,000) each, while the third fetched R95 000 (US$5,000). The buyers were reportedly business tycoons and a politician who wanted to show support for Billiat and Yadah. The club said the proceeds from the auction would go towards charity and youth development.

Khama received a R380 000 (US$20,000) sign-on fee and a R95 000 (US$5,000) monthly salary from Yadah FC. He expressed gratitude to the club and the fans for the warm welcome.

“Firstly, I want to thank God. There is so much love in Zimbabwe. This is great. I have been homesick for some time, and being here, having so much love, I’m looking forward to enjoying football here in Zimbabwe. I’m grateful that I still have a chance to play here in Zimbabwe. I don’t think I’ve ever been loved like this before. I didn’t know how it was; it’s a great feeling. Yadah FC is a special team, and I have been watching them, they play beautiful football despite winning or losing. Their football is beautiful. I came from an academy so this is the only place I thought I would come. They showed so much love for me, and they sacrificed a lot for me,”

He also received a brand new Land Rover Defender from Yadah as part of his deal.

Yadah FC snatched Khama last week just as he was about to join giant Dynamos FC after he left Amakhosi in June 2023. The “Miracle Boys” then shook off competition from Manica Diamonds and offered him a sweeter deal.
