Teboho Mokoena shines in the Tshwane derby

South African midfielder, Teboho Mokoena, scored one of the goals of the season in the Tshwane Derby as Mamelodi Sundowns drew against SuperSport United.

On Tuesday evening, the Matsatsantsa fought from a goal behind to secure a deserved point in their 1-1 draw against the league leaders at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium.

The Masandawana started the game as the better side and came close to scoring in the 11th minute through Matias Esquivel’s free-kick, but his effort sailed on top of the net.

The home side’s pressure finally paid off as Bafana Bafana star Mokoena gave them the deserved lead.

In a viral video shared on social media, Teboho Mokoena hit a long-range effort that found the back of Washington Arubi’s net.

The Brazilians dominated the second half of the game but were unable to create a clear-cut chance to seal all three points against Gavin Hunt’s side.

Despite the draw, Sundowns extended their unbeaten run to 42 games and are ahead of Orlando Pirates and SuperSport with 13 points in the PSL.

Sundowns’ next game would be against Maritzburg United in the Nedbank Cup on Sunday (March 17) before switching focus to their CAF Champions League quarter-final clash against Tanzanian side Young Africans.
