Woman gets 36 months house arrest for killing cop husband staged as suicide

A woman who murdered her police officer husband and staged it as a suicide has been sentenced to 36 months of correctional supervision.

The woman from Fort Beaufort who told police that her Constable husband committed suicide, was sentenced last week for his murder.

Spokesperson Captain Yolisa Mgolodela says in August of 2021, police received a complaint about an officer who had shot himself in the Zwide location.

She says they found the deceased, 25-year-old Wongama Nqiqi lying in a pool of blood still in his police uniform.

Mgolodela says his wife, Andiswa, told police her husband returned from work with some alcohol and they later had an argument.

Andiswa said she begged her husband to put his firearm away when he held it against his head and pulled the trigger.

Captain Mgolodela says upon further investigation and interviews with witnesses who were present, it was established that the wife murdered her husband.

She says Andiswa also conspired with the witnesses to collaborate on her version.

The woman was arrested by the Gqeberha-based National Priority Violent Crime Unit of the Hawks and Fort Beaufort Detectives on the same day of the incident.

Mgolodela says she was released on bail and a lengthy trial ensued.

Andiswa was found guilty in the Fort Beaufort Regional Court last week and was ordered to undergo 36 months of correctional supervision, of which she will also be under house arrest

The convicted killer must also complete 16 hours of community service each month and was handed a five-year prison sentence wholly suspended for five years.

Her sentence was influenced by a report from Social Workers since Nqiqi has four minor children who would have been greatly affected if their mother became incarcerated.
