Manchester United suffer humiliating 4-0 defeat by Crytal Palace

Manchester United’s season took another disastrous turn as they suffered a humiliating 4-0 defeat at the hands of Crystal Palace on Wednesday night. The loss, which was United’s 13th of the campaign, set a new club record and leaves them in eighth place in the Premier League table – completely out of reach of the European places.

From the very start of the match, it was clear that United were in trouble. Their players looked dishevelled and disinterested, while Palace played with confidence and attacking intent. Michael Olise was particularly impressive for the home side, leading the way with his excellent performance.

The match was a chaotic affair, with United’s small moments of ineptitude adding up to a wider picture of a team in disarray. The sight of Casemiro flat out on the floor as younger and stronger men ran away from him and Antony screaming at a teammate in a fruitless attempt to deflect from his own errors were just a few examples of the team’s struggles.

The defeat also raises serious questions about the future of Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman looked helpless on the touchline as Palace scored goal after goal, and his hopes of remaining in the job are now vanishing, if not already vanished. There are even rumours in the German press that he may be a target for Bayern Munich.

For United, the danger of missing out on European football is now very real, and the team’s bad season threatens to become a genuinely disastrous one. It remains to be seen whether anything can be done to turn things around in the remaining weeks of the campaign, but one thing is clear: United must act quickly and decisively if they are to avoid a complete catastrophe.
