Epworth man kills son (2) with rat poison after dispute with wife

In a heartwrenching incident, a man from Epworth, Harare made his 2-year-old child drink maheu laced with rat poison after a domestic dispute with his wife.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has launched a manhunt to locate Tinashe Nyamutambo, aged 22, who is wanted in connection with the murder case that took place on January 29, 2024, in Garan’anga, Epworth. 

According to reports, Nyamutambo forced his two-year-old child to consume buttermilk Maheu that had been laced with rat poison following a domestic altercation with his wife. The man had an aim to kill both himself and his child after the heated argument, which has not yet been made public.

Afterwards, Nyamutambo also ingested the poisoned drink. Both he and the child were rushed to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for urgent medical treatment by their family and neighbours.

Tragically, the child succumbed to the poisoning and passed away on January 31, 2024, while receiving medical care. During this period, Nyamutambo managed to escape from the hospital and his current whereabouts are unknown.

A police case was made on arrival at the hospital and the suspect is now on the run. The ZRP has launched a manhunt for the man as he is still at large even after 3 months of committing the heinous crime.
