Babes Wodumo dumps Showmax

KwaZulu-Natal-born musician Babes Wodumo – real name Bongekile Simelane – has reportedly cut ties with Showmax.

According to ZiMoja, the gqom queen is now working with another streaming platform to bring her fans her reality TV show, Uthando Lodumo, which she teased last year.

BABES WODUMO REPORTEDLY PARTS WAYS WITH SHOWMAX

The show, which is set to launch for a third season, looks into the musician’s life with her late husband Mampintsha – real name Mandla Maphumulo.

Mampintsha, who was a member of kwaito group Big Nuz, passed away on 24 December 2022. He shared one child with Babes Wodumo — two-year-old son Hlelolenkosi Maphumulo, better known as Sponge.

According to ZiMoja’s sources, Babes Wodumo and Showmax did not have a fallout. The Wololo hitmaker is said to have ended her relationship with the giant streaming platform because she received a better financial offer elsewhere.

The sources also revealed that Babes Wodumo had already shot a few episodes with Showmax, but expressed that to the streaming company that she wanted more money.

“That’s the only reason she left Showmax. She was shopping for a better deal,”

Another source revealed that the loss of her husband will be a big part of season three of the series.

“Babes will be talking about losing her husband at a young age and how she had to deal with grief.”

While Babes Wodumo’s sister and manager, Nondumiso Simelane refused to comment, CEO of General Entertainment at MultiChoice, Nomsa Philiso, said the singer was free to do whatever she felt was best for her.

“We don’t own anyone, I am sure people are exploring options – that is the joy of a vibrant industry,” Philiso said.

SINGER’S RUMOURED BOYFRIEND ZUMA SET TO APPEAR ON SEASON THREE

Sources also revealed that former Amaroto group member, Sabelo Zuma (whose stage name is Zuma) will also be on Uthando Lodumo season three.

“Amapiano star Zuma who is said to be dating the Wololo singer and other artists will also form part of the show,” said one source.

In February this year, Babes Wodumo was rumoured to be dating Zuma, however, fans poured cold water on the claims saying the pair are cousins.

Babes Wodumo also recently told ZiMoja that she is still mourning Mampintsha.

“I am still mourning my husband. Other days are tough, but every day I am fighting. I have a child to take care of and my family is my priority.”
