Former ZANU PF MP Isau Mupfumi Under Fire for Political Exploitation of Tragic Bus Accident
The tragic bus accident that claimed the lives of eight members of the Anglican Church has not only plunged families and communities into mourning but has also become a focal point for controversy due to the actions of former ZANU PF MP Isau Mupfumi.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Mupfumi can be seen addressing mourners at the scene of the accident and coercing them to chant a political slogan supporting President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
This insensitive and divisive action has sparked outrage and condemnation on various social media platforms, with many expressing their discontent and disapproval of Mupfumi’s behaviour.
The video captures Mupfumi standing in front of the Pashonlink bus’s wreckage, addressing mourners seated on the grass. He is seen urging civil servants and other mourners in attendance to chant a slogan in support of President Mnangagwa.

The distressing nature of the accident scene and the raw emotions of the mourners make Mupfumi’s inappropriate conduct all the more reprehensible. Social media users have been swift in their criticism, denouncing Mupfumi’s actions as disgraceful and inhumane.
Many have expressed their dismay at the politicization of a tragic event, lamenting the fact that Isau Mupfumi turned a somber occasion into a political spectacle.
Former Minister Walter Mzembi decried Mupfumi’s actions;
Murambwi @edmnangagwa you dont need this kind of scumbug CC Member Mupfumi campaigning for your 2030 agenda at a sad event like this ; a bus accident funeral…
This is out of turn .
The prevalent sentiment is that Mupfumi’s decision to exploit the tragic accident for political gain was callous and disrespectful to the memory of the deceased and their grieving families.
Another former Cabinet Minister Saviour Kasukuwere said that sloganeering culture should be abandoned.
Despicable, callous and insensitive! This culture must be changed. The top leadership sits on chairs and the grieving families are abused with sloganeering! Izvi Shumba we must change. We used to be this silly sadly!
As the video continues to circulate and elicit widespread condemnation, it is evident that Isau Mupfumi’s actions have not only garnered public disapproval but have also reinforced the importance of ethical conduct and respect for the dignity of those affected by the tragedy.
