Zimbabwean bust trying to crash President Ramaphosa’s inauguration using dead man’s ID

A Zimbabwean man was caught attempting to enter the venue of the inauguration of South Africa’s newly elected President Cyril Ramaphosa using an ID of a dead person.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe said they are leaving nothing to chance.

“At the time, the Zimbabwean national attempted to obtain accreditation, our integrated systems immediately detected that this individual was using an identity document of a deceased person.

The suspect has been charged with fraud and Contravention of the Immigration Act. He is in police custody,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ramaphosa is in high spirits and looking forward to his inauguration, according to his spokesperson Vincent Magwenya. Guests have started arriving and filling the Nelson Mandela Amphitheatre, where Chief Justice Raymond Zondo conducted the swearing-in ceremony from as early as 5am this morning.

Ramaphosa also did a walkabout at the Union Buildings in Tshwane to assess the state of readiness for the inauguration ceremony.

Heads of states from across the world started arriving yesterday and some are still landing. Dignitaries including Ministers and MPs are also currently making their way to the Amphitheatre where the main ceremony will be held. Magwenya confirmed that Ramaphosa will not announce his cabinet today.
