POLICE SPEAK ON ALLEGED ARREST OF 50 NAMIBIANS IN MILITARY CAMPS PLOTTING AGAINST MNANGAGWA

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has moved to explain a statement that had been circulated, purportedly given by its spokesperson, Assistant Paul Nyathi stating that stated that 50 Namibian citizens had been arrested in Zimbabwean military camps for purported subversive activities.

The ZRP issued a statement dismissing the social media post and the alleged media article as untrue. They added that after analyzing the initial statement, they contacted Police Commanders and Provinces to confirm the facts. Their investigations indicated that no such arrests had taken place throughout the country.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police dismisses a social media post and purported media story attributed to the Police alleging that 50 Namibians have been arrested in Zimbabwe military camps for subversive activities. Checks with relevant Police Commanders and Provinces have revealed that no such occurrence has been noted in the country. The fake and false statement is dismissed with the contempt it deserves,” part of the statement reads.

ZRP spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, stated that the purported press statement did not conform to the standard format and procedures of the Zimbabwe Republic Police. He emphasized that the fake statement was crafted inconsistent with their established practices.

“The purported press statement is crafted in a manner not conforming to Zimbabwe Republic Police standards or format,” the statement further reads.

Nyathi also mentioned that the ZRP is aware of the intentions behind the fake statement, which seems to aim to damage Zimbabwe’s relations with its neighbours. An investigation has been launched to identify and prosecute those who created the false statement.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is fully aware of the intentions and motive of the criminals or unruly elements. Investigations will certainly be intensified to account for the criminals who are obviously trying to disturb the peaceful environment obtaining in the country and in the process sent false information to the country’s neighbours,” the statement concluded.
