Macheso’s Album Launch Postponed As Police Ban Social Gatherings Ahead of SADC Summit?

Alick Macheso’s manager, Tich Makahamadze, has reassured everyone that the album launch for the Orchestra Mberikwazvo frontman will proceed as scheduled, despite the government’s prohibition of public gatherings leading up to the SADC summit in August.
Macheso plans to unveil his album “Kupa Kuturika” at the Alexander Sports Club in Harare on Friday.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has approved the event, despite initial concerns about a potential conflict with the SADC Industrialisation Week.

Officer Commanding Harare District, Chief Superintendent Godfrey Moyo, has advised Macheso’s camp to strictly adhere to the conditions of the clearance.
“Your notification letter to hold a musical event on the 2nd of August 2024 at Alex Sports Club from 2100hrs to 0400hrs has been noted. Please confine your event to the above-stated venue and times outlined. Make sure that no Zimbabwean laws are violated. The police will monitor,” he said.
Speaking to The Sunday Mail, Orchestra Mberikwazvo band manager Tich Makahamadze confirmed the police clearance and thanked the relevant authorities for giving the launch their stamp of approval. Makahamadze assured that the Orchestra Mberikwazvo will be on their best behaviour and ensure the event is conducted within the conditions.
“We would like to thank the authorities for the opportunity. The clearance proved the amount of trust that has been bestowed on us by the authorities during this ongoing SADC Industrialisation Week. We understand people from across the region are in the country for the regional event and we will do our best,” Tich Makahamadze said.
