PROPHET Paseka “Mboro” Motsoeneng hasn’t backed down from getting the culprits who burnt down his church behind bars.
Mboro said he’s willing to break the bank and increase the reward prize for finding the culprits who burnt down his church. He said this during a media conference organised by the Congress of South African Students (Cosas) on Friday, 20 September.
The media conference was scheduled to be held at Mboro’s burnt church in Katlehong, Ekurhuleni, but due to bad weather, it was moved to Mboro’s house in Alberton.
Mboro said since he has put up a reward, many people have been calling to give him information that even implicates some Cosas members from in and around Ekurhuleni.
“I already have all the names of the people who were behind the burning of my church, and they will be submitted to the cops. I don’t want to punish the kids, but I have to follow the law. In the process, I want reconciliation, and I want the pupils to be rehabilitated,” said Mboro.
The Gauteng Cosas provincial congress preparatory task team member, Ndomeleze Mfiki, said the purpose of the conference was to get Mboro’s side of what happened on the fateful day of 5 August when he was seen wielding a panga and carrying what appeared to be a heavy rifle at Matsediso Primary School.
Mfiki said Mboro, as a renowned pastor, knows that dangerous weapons are prohibited from being carried on any school premises.

“As the leadership of Cosas, we wanted to find out what led him to carry those dangerous weapons at the school. Our aim as Cosas is to ensure that we get both sides of the story from both affected families because we understand that the issue at hand is personal and focuses on the custody of the children, which then escalated to the school premises,” said Mfiki.
He said they are aware Mboro has also issued a reward of R5000 to anyone who can help him find the culprits who burnt down his church. He said they didn’t come for a reward, and they’re not declaring Mboro as innocent.
“Since the matter’s before the court, we will leave everything in the hands of the law. The reward can create a moment of desperation as we all know most people are not working, so it’s likely that people who didn’t commit the arson act can be pinpointed and accused of something they didn’t do. It has been reported in the media that our members are among the people who are behind the burning of the church,” said Mfiki.
He said they’d do their investigation to find out who those members were.
“We urged Mboro to give us time to go back to our people and relate what we have gathered regarding this matter. The only thing that I can assure’s that Cosas is going to assist Mboro in finding those who were calling themselves our members when they burnt the church,” said Mfiki.
“We are going to come back with a response and solution on how we can get an amicable solution,” said Mfiki.
Mfiki said they can’t promote any violence in schools. “Mboro went to the school with prohibited weapons that caused havoc and left everyone scared and traumatised,” said Mfiki.
Mboro responded by saying he went to the school after he heard his son was allegedly locked behind burglar doors.
“I went with the pangas to help my son to be freed. I never threatened anyone; however, when we went out, there were people blocking our way towards the gate,” said Mboro.
Mfiki said Mboro should follow proper procedures and protocols.
