Fake Doctor Prosper Mpofu Arrested Again at Mpilo Central Hospital
Prosper Mpofu, whose true identity is Taurai Prosper Vanhuvaone, was arrested once more on Monday morning at Mpilo Central Hospital.
Currently out on bail for prior offenses, Vanhuvaone was reportedly found on hospital grounds with some of his victims. His arrest has reignited public outrage over the growing issue of medical fraud in the country.
Hospital officials confirmed the arrest, expressing alarm at Vanhuvaone’s presence on the premises, especially given his ongoing legal troubles for impersonating a medical professional. “We were shocked to see him here again.
He has caused significant harm to both the healthcare sector and the public,” stated a senior official from Mpilo Central Hospital. His unexpected return raised immediate concerns, prompting swift action from hospital security and local law enforcement.

Vanhuvaone was initially arrested for practicing medicine without a valid license and has been accused of defrauding numerous patients who believed him to be a qualified doctor. Allegations against him include providing medical consultations, prescribing medications, and performing minor procedures without the necessary qualifications.
Authorities noted that some victims were present when he was apprehended, suggesting he may have been trying to continue his fraudulent activities.
The news of Vanhuvaone’s re-arrest has stirred fear and frustration among the public, particularly among those who previously fell victim to his deceitful practices. One victim, who wished to remain anonymous, expressed their distress: “I trusted him with my health, only to learn he wasn’t a real doctor. It’s terrifying to think he was still operating after being exposed.”
