According to prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, Issah had been living in Zimbabwe illegally for an unspecified period. In an effort to legalize her stay, she obtained Zimbabwean identity documents using false information. The authorities have not yet disclosed how she managed to acquire these documents or for how long she had been using them.
Issah was remanded in custody and will remain there until Friday, pending the allocation of a potential trial date. The case highlights the ongoing challenges surrounding immigration and the use of fraudulent documents in Zimbabwe. The incident also raises concerns about the integrity of the country’s identification processes and the need for stricter measures to curb document fraud. The authorities are expected to investigate further and take appropriate action against those involved in the illegal acquisition of identification papers.
