DRAMATIC ESCAPE: OFFICER SURVIVES TRAIN CRASH WHILE CHASING FLEEING KOMBI

A police officer in Marondera narrowly escaped death on Saturday when his vehicle was struck by a train at a level crossing. The officer, who was pursuing a fleeing kombi, failed to observe the mandatory stop-and-proceed rule at the crossing. He sustained injuries in the accident.

The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) condemned the incident, emphasising the critical importance of adhering to level crossing regulations.

“Motorists, including law enforcement agents, must always exercise extreme caution at level crossings,” the NRZ statement read. “Never attempt to outrun an approaching train. This reckless pursuit culture has repeatedly led to accidents, jeopardizing the lives of both officers and innocent civilians.”
