Shock as ex-ZIFA Presidential Aspirant Martin Kweza gets ZBC top post

In a dramatic twist of events that could be a pointer to growing suspicions about the dubious nature through which the just-ended ZIFA elections were conducted, Martin Kweza, who shocked the football fraternity by pulling out of the presidential race of the country’s football governing body just hours before the election last week, has been rewarded with a post at the national broadcaster, ZBC.
This follows the announcement of new appointments at the ZBC, the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) and Transmedia Corporation.

Kweza, a former ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League chairman, had been co-opted into the association’s executive committee following the recalling of former president Felton Kamambo and two executive members Bryton Malandule and Philemon Machana.
His recent withdrawal from the ZIFA presidential race that was eventually won by Nqobile Magwizi sent shockwaves in the football fraternity.

The polls were allegedly marred by rampant electoral malpractices and alleged vote buying, with controversial business magnate, Wicknel Chivhayo being labelled the primary scapegoat after he pledged to financially support the perennially bungling football association on the condition that Magwizi prevailed the winner in the elections.

Kweza is now the Non-Executive Director at the national broadcaster.
Tapson Dzvetero has been appointed as the Acting Deputy Board Chair and Non-Executive Director at the broadcaster while prominent lawyer, Valentine Mutatu, is the new BAZ Board Chairman.
Chaplin Chinyanga has also been appointed the Non-Executive Director at BAZ with Lawrence Nkala being appointed as the Board Chairman for Transmedia Corporation.
