Today, the only musician Zimbabweans refer to as the Gaffer, the Bigman, and Ninja President amongst a multiplicity of other names, is turning 42.
Born Wallace Chirimuko some 42 years ago in the African township of Kambuzuma, in the capital Harare, Winky D is celebrating with his Vigilance family, buttressed by an EP birthday present.
The latest EP, which he showcased live on stage to his legion of fans in Mbare, also features rising star Bling 4 on one song titled Pabho.
The other tracks on his latest offering include Kudhakwa, Zvatanga, and PaTonaz.
His EP, dropped at a scintillating performance in the city’s oldest township was pregnant with political connotations, and went viral on social networking platforms.
Winky D is widely respected as a rare breed of his generation of contemporary musicians in the country, and has openly challenged the alleged excesses of the long-ruling Zanu PF- in power since Zimbabwe’s attainment of independence in 1980.
Winky will celebrate his birthday belatedly on March 9, 2025.
