Former Cabinet Minister Backs Geza; Accuses Zanu PF of Plotting ‘Life Presidency’

Exiled former Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister, Walter Mzembi has expressed his backing for outspoken war veterans’ leader, Blessed Geza, who is now wanted by the country’s policing authorities on multiple criminal charges.

Mzembi, who fled the country after the humiliating ouster of the late long-ruling Zimbabwe’s former president Robert Mugabe in 2017, said there is a ploy by a section in Zanu PF to create an ammendment for ‘Life Presidency’ in the Constitution.
His sentiments come in the wake of rising tensions in the ruling party, with the Geza-led war veterans accusing President Emmerson Mnangagwa of being bent on disregarding the Constitution by wishing to extend his tenure beyond 2028.
“The current conflict inside Zanu PF is over the intention to change our Constitution and create a Life State Presidency , it is not limited to this Party but it is a National issue because the Constitution is the Supreme Law of our country,” posted Mzembi on X, formerly Twitter.
He added:
“The changes are being initiated by a Party but will assume national character that will affect everyone regardless of party affiliation. Therefore dessiminating messaging that says leave Zanu PF to fight it out alone is politically daft ; in defence of our Constitution people should takes sides conscious of the fact that before change happens nationally it starts in Zanu PF (sic). “
In apparent reference to Geza, who has taken a bold stance to challenge President Mnangagwa’s alleged extension of tenure of office, Mzembi posted:
