Hope for Hurungwe Villagers as Cement Plant targets 2k Employees

Villagers from Hurungwe District are now pinning their hopes on the West China Cement Company (WIH ZIM) which is set to employ 2 000 people during its construction phase.

WIH ZIM is building a cement factory plant in the district.

The company is one of the leading cement producers in China’s Shaanxi Province.

It has a leading market position in eastern and southern Shaanxi and a presence in Xinjiang and Guizhou Provinces.

The cement-producing company also has a presence in Mozambique, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Ethiopia.

Speaking to the state media, acting chairman of WIH ZIM, Thomas Chidzomba, said the company is going to employ more than two thousand workers during the construction of the cement plant.

Chidzomba said they are expecting to finish the construction phase early next year if everything goes well.

He also added that WIH ZIM has other copper projects in Matabeleland North, where the company is going to build a 600-megawatt thermal power station.

“We will put the electricity to the national grid.

“If resources permit, maybe, we will put another one and that will add another 1000 megawatts.

“For all our four projects, our target is to complete them next year.

“I believe if we work hard as a team, we can also make a difference to the economy of the country,” Chidzomba quipped.

“We are on it almost 18 hours a day. We are going to fulfill the mantra of the President, brick by brick, stone by stone and leaving no one behind in Vision 2030.

“We are happy to be complimenting the Government’s efforts in the growth and development of this nation,” he added.

Site Manager, Zhang Wei told reporters during a tour of the plant that, the environment in Zimbabwe was good for his company’s investments.

“The environment here is very good for our company’s investments.

“We already have more than 14 or 15 projects in different countries in Africa. Compared to other countries, here the security is good, the people are hospitable.

“This project in Zimbabwe is our top priority,” he said.
