Hospitalised Journalist Blessed Mhlanga wanted by Police

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has, for the third time, announced that is seeking hospitalized journalist Blessed Mhlanga in connection with allegations under Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

This development has exacerbated growing concerns that Mhlanga, who works for Africa Media Holdings (AMH)’s Heat and Soul TV, is being targeted for his work.

According to a statement that was issued by the ZRP on February 21, 2025, (today) the police said they need to interview Mhlanga in connection with allegations under Section 164 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi wrote in the statement:

“The ZRP is seeking information on the location and subsequent information of journalist Blessed Mhlanga.

This is in connection with allegations of contravention Section 64 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter (9:23).

Anyone with information should contact any nearest police station or the National Complaints Desk (0242)703631 or WhatsApp number 0712800197”.

The police search for Mhlanga comes amid speculation that there is a campaign against the journalist, after he held several interviews with outspoken Government critic, Blessed Runesu Geza.

The bedridden Mhlanga expressed distress over the situation, saying:

“I am tripping, I am falling, and I can’t get up. My health is failing me, my mind spinning,” he said in a message last night. “I am in a hospital right now. But I am grateful for the support that I have received from you, my employers, and my family. This is a trying time for me. All I am doing is my job.”
