Miner Claims Victory in Zanu PF Insiza North Primary Elections Re-Run

Local miner Delani Moyo has secured the Zanu PF parliamentary primary for the Insiza North constituency following the party leadership’s order to re-run the controversial elections.

Insiza North witnessed a significant transformation when initial results from the May 3 primary election were nullified amid widespread allegations of electoral malpractice. The first contest saw Moses Langa declared winner over Moyo, but claims of ballot tampering and voter intimidation prompted party officials to mandate a fresh vote.

Tuesday’s re-run delivered markedly different results, with voter participation dropping substantially from the initial election’s 5,000+ turnout. Final tallies revealed:

  • Delani Moyo: 1,588 votes
  • Moses Langa: 1,185 votes
  • Qhubani Moyo: 837 votes

With the primary contest now settled, attention turns to the upcoming nomination court session scheduled for May 15. This procedural step will formally register candidates for the June 14 by-election, triggered by the unfortunate passing of two-term Zanu PF legislator Farai Taruvinga. The legislator died of cancer last month.

Political analysts predict Zanu PF will maintain its stronghold in the constituency, particularly given the current fragmentation within opposition ranks. Moyo’s victory positions him as the presumptive favourite in the forthcoming general election.

The election outcome marks a significant personal achievement for Moyo, who transitions from the mining sector to frontline politics. His campaign reportedly emphasized local economic development and infrastructure improvement, resonating with constituency voters.
