The man accused of assaulting a Masvingo South MP Tanatsiwa Mukomberi in a hotel car park was granted bail.
A 38-year-old Braeside resident appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo on Friday, facing serious charges related to an altercation with Masvingo South legislator Tanatsiwa Mukomberi. The accused, Wilson Mutambwani, secured release on $200 bail following the alleged incident at Cresta Lodge.
Dramatic Parking Lot Confrontation
According to prosecution records presented by Tafadzwa Jambawu, the events unfolded on May 20 when Mutambwani visited the hotel for a business meeting. After concluding his appointment around 8:30 PM, the defendant made a shocking discovery in the parking area.
“The accused identified his spouse’s white Nissan Xtrail parked on the premises,” Jambawu stated. “Security personnel informed him the vehicle’s owner had departed in a Ford Ranger Raptor with another individual.”

Court documents reveal Mutambwani allegedly disabled his wife’s vehicle by deflating its tires before lying in wait. The situation escalated dramatically when Mukomberi arrived with the defendant’s wife around 4:40 AM the following morning.
Prosecutors claim Mutambwani brandished a replica firearm (Blow F92 model) before physically removing the parliamentarian from his vehicle. “The defendant allegedly struck the complainant repeatedly while shouting accusations of marital infidelity,” Jambawu added.

Property Damage and Aftermath
The confrontation reportedly concluded with Mutambwani damaging Mukomberi’s Ford Ranger windscreen with a stone before departing with his spouse. Medical reports confirm the MP sustained minor injuries requiring professional treatment.
Legal experts suggest the case highlights growing concerns about personal disputes spilling into public violence. The court has scheduled follow-up hearings as investigations continue into the assault and property damage charges.
