Ignatius Chombo Dismisses Death Reports
Former Zanu-PF heavyweight Ignatius Chombo has come out to dismiss reports claiming he had died, saying he is alive and in good health.
Social media was set abuzz on Wednesday, 25 June 2025, with claims that Chombo had passed away at a private hospital in Harare after a battle with prostate cancer. The reports quickly spread, with some news platforms suggesting that the former cabinet minister had quietly lost his fight with the disease.
Ignatius Chombo Dismisses Death Reports
But Chombo, speaking to Bustop TV, rubbished the claims and confirmed that he is very much alive.
The former Minister of Finance and one-time influential Zanu PF figure sounded strong and unbothered as he dismissed the false reports. Chombo, who once served in Robert Mugabe’s last Cabinet, said he is aware that false death rumours have followed him in the past, but he is still standing.
Social media users were left fuming after Bustop TV retracted the report that Ignatius Chombo had died. Others were grateful that the publication had dismissed the misinformation.

A Complicated Legacy
Chombo, who faced a series of corruption charges after the 2017 military-led ouster of Mugabe, saw most of his cases collapse over the years. By 2023, the National Prosecuting Authority had cleared him of his last remaining charges.
In March 2024, he was quietly readmitted into Zanu PF, alongside other previously sidelined figures like Killer Zivhu and Petronella Kagonye.
