I don’t regret serving prison time: Jub Jub

Uyajola 9/9 host Jub Jub opened up about his time in prison in the latest episode of Showmax’s Unfollowed. The rapper and media personality was sentenced to 25 years in prison in 2010 for murder, attempted murder and three related offences after four children were killed and two others were seriously injured.

Jub Jub, who was participating in a drag race on a public road, near the school, lost control of the Mini Cooper he was driving and ran over the children. In 2014, his murder conviction was overturned and his sentence was reduced to 10 years, effective from 2012.

Jub Jub was paroled in 2017 and returned to the entertainment industry by hosting a popular South African reality TV show. The 43-year-old man, who is currently facing charges of rape, murder and attempted murder after four women filed complaints against him, said that while he did not regret his time in prison, he regrets his actions and the accident.

“It made me a better person. It made me wiser. I became closer to Amadlozi Wam, and I became closer to God. Prison is the only place that actually forced me to be alone, to reconnect because of the life I was living, I had no time for what my ancestors wanted me to do. I had no time with God and it just brought me much closer.

I regret all my actions, and the accident. I don’t regret going to prison.”

Jub Jub, who asserted that the allegations against him by four women, one of whom was a family member, were false, said life in prison was difficult.

“What you think of prison, it’s a thousand times and a million times more. It was bad, and prison didn’t care whether you were Jub Jub or not. It’s bad.

Everybody is entitled to do whatever they want to do. In regards to that matter, I would rather not talk about it. I know who I am. I know what I stand for. I’ve got three beautiful sisters that I know for one, if anybody laid a hand on them, trust me, I would not wait for the justice system.”

Jub Jub on the charges against him

Initially, Jub Jub was charged with 3 counts of rape, 2 counts of attempted murder and assault. However, the charges have since been amended to include 13 counts of rape, attempted murder, indecent assault, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and kidnapping.

Jub Jub is expected back in court on 08 November.
