Matobo robbers jailed 10 years for stealing US$30

Two men must be kicking themselves for the ill-fated decision to rob a store owner in Matobo for a measly US$30 as they are now destined to spend a solid ten years of their lives behind bars for their crime.

In a statement released on Monday, the Zimbabwe Republic Police confirmed that Clement Ndlovu (20) and Mduduzi Ndlovu (28) were convicted and sentenced to a decade behind bars when they appeared before Plumtree Regional Court.

The duo was arrested in connection with a case of robbery that took place on 8 January 2024 at Siyazama General Dealer, Matopos Research Station, Matobo, Bulilimamangwe.

Playing the parts of innocent customers, the two tricked the unsuspecting shopkeeper into believing they were simply there to buy some refreshments. But, in the blink of an eye, they launched a surprise attack on the poor shopkeeper, swiping US$30 in cold hard cash, a laptop, two cellphones, and even a speaker box.

After the two robbers hastily fled the scene, the shopkeeper went to the police and made a report. The police swiftly sprang into action and attended the scene. They tracked the suspects to Insukamini Power Station Figtree, where they were subsequently arrested. Fortunately for the shopkeeper, the police also managed to recover every single stolen item, along with a Star Eibar Espania S.A Pistol 9 mm calibre

In wrapping up their statement, the police reminded members of the public to stay vigilant and immediately report any criminal acts at any nearest Police Station for prompt and effective action. They made it crystal clear that the long arm of the law will deal with criminals without fear or favour.
