Police Warn Against Circulating Videos of Officers Being Harassed

Police have issued a strong warning against the spread of videos showing police officers being harassed, pledging to take legal action against those responsible for sharing such content.
The warning follows a rise in viral footage depicting officers being confronted and, in some cases, physically handled by members of the public. The trend has sparked concerns over increasing defiance toward law enforcement.
National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, stressed that such behaviour is not only unlawful but also a direct challenge to police authority.
“Any individuals found distributing these videos with the intent to demean or discredit law enforcement will face serious consequences,” Nyathi stated.
He further emphasised that the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) would not allow public confidence in law enforcement to be undermined, adding that authorities are closely monitoring these incidents and will make arrests where necessary.
Nyathi urged citizens to express any grievances through proper legal channels rather than using social media to create sensational narratives.
Amid rising tensions between law enforcement and the public, this move signals a firm stance by authorities to maintain order. As digital platforms continue shaping public opinion, the struggle between online activism and institutional authority is likely to escalate.
