“Zimbabwe’s Political Chaos Intensifies as Manyika Recalls 70 Zanu PF MPs”
The political landscape in Zimbabwe has recently witnessed an intriguing twist as a member of the ruling party, Zanu PF, has written to the Speaker of the National Assembly, Jacob Mudenda, requesting the recall of 70 Members of Parliament (MPs).
This development follows a similar fate suffered by the opposition party, CCC, whose 15 MPs and 17 councilors were recalled based on a letter authored by Sengezo Tshabangu, claiming to be the party’s interim secretary-general. However, the CCC has disowned Tshabangu.
In the case of Zanu PF, Tafadzwa Manyika, who asserts to be the party’s interim secretary-general, sent a letter to Mudenda on October 12, 2023, stating that the 70 legislators in question are no longer members of the party.
Upon contacting Mudenda for a comment, he declined, stating, “I am not commenting on that.”
Efforts to reach Zanu PF spokesperson Christopher Mutsvangwa for a statement were unsuccessful.
Among the targeted Zanu PF legislators are notable figures such as Barbara Rwodzi (Chirumanzu South MP), July Moyo (Redcliff), Vangelis Peter Haritatos (Muzvezve), Farai Jere (Murehwa West), Winston Chitando (Gutu Central), Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa (Hunyani), Jenfan Muswere (Makoni West), Polite Kambamura (Sanyati), Owen Ncube (Gokwe Kana), and Paul Mavhima (Gokwe Sengwa), among others.
