Commencement of Investigation into Alleged Attempted Murder by Chinese National

The investigation into allegations of attempted murder, filed by a Marondera businessman against former business partner Li Song, has begun following the businessman’s complaint to Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga regarding the slow progress of the case.

According to sources, Song was summoned to the police Homicide Unit and cautioned on Thursday in preparation for a trial.

The businessman, who owned several companies including the prominent Eagle Italian Shoes and Leather, reported the murder plot after uncovering an alleged scheme by his business partner to harm him.

His case was filed at Dornington Police Station under case number CR43/01/24.

Despite witness statements being recorded, there was little movement in the case prompting the businessman to write a letter expressing concerns over the handling of the matter, requesting its transfer to Harare Homicide, which was refused.

In his recent letter to Matanga, the businessman highlighted concerns for his safety and that of his son, citing threats following his report of externalization, theft, and money laundering against his former business partner.

Efforts to transfer the case to Harare were rebuffed by the Dornington Police Station, insisting on handling it internally.

The businessman, in constant communication with Detective Gadzai assigned to the case, expressed urgency due to threats to his life and the evidence collected implicating the accused.

Despite delays attributed to waiting for call history, the businessman urged prompt action, emphasizing the seriousness of the situation.

He underscored the need for attention to his complaint, believing it to be the best course of action for a swift resolution.

The businessman has been embroiled in legal disputes with Song over alleged embezzlement and externalization of funds, with suspicions of protection from certain political and government figures.
