Two Security Guards Fired for Escorting Businessman Wicknell Chivayo

Two security guards have lost their jobs after escorting businessman Wicknell Chivayo to his vehicle when he was swarmed by an excited crowd outside a Harare bank.
The guards, employed by Safeguard Security, have been identified as Gunner Chitsatsva and a colleague known only as Zvirawa, who is believed to have been driving their security vehicle.
A large crowd gathered upon spotting Chivayo entering the bank, with many hoping to receive money from him or simply excited by his presence. As he exited through the back entrance to avoid the commotion, the two security guards were seen assisting him in reaching his car.
However, their employer deemed their actions unprofessional, arguing that they had no authorisation to provide security services to Chivayo when their duty was to safeguard the bank premises.

Safeguard’s manager, identified as Gwatidzo, confirmed the pair’s dismissal, stating that their conduct did not align with company policy.
“Our company does not have any security contract with Mr Chivayo. Their role was to secure the premises, not to escort individuals. The video circulating on social media misrepresented our company, as they were in uniform and appeared to be offering private security services,” he explained.
Meanwhile, the wife of one of the dismissed guards expressed frustration over the decision, claiming the company acted based on social media speculation.
“People assumed my husband was paid by Chivayo, yet he was not. They were simply trying to control the crowd that was pressing toward him. Now, our family is struggling because of this punishment,” she lamented.
Efforts to contact the two guards for comment were unsuccessful.
