Mastermind Behind Setting Trucks On Fire Caught On Camera

More than 20 trucks have so far been set ablaze in South Africa igniting a major crisis which authorities have termed economic saboteurs.

Truck drivers are living in constant fear as the trend becomes rife in South Africa.

A shocking dashcam video of a vehicle graphically shows how the offenders hijack the trucks before setting them on fire.

In the video, a driver is forcibly hijacked by a person in a hoodie while on the N2 between Piet Retief and Ermelo early on Wednesday morning.

The truck stops, and the driver pulls over to speak with the suspect, who is then made to get out. The suspect enters the vehicle while carrying a bag with what looks to be a flammable chemical and a box of matches.

Shortly after starting the car, he pours the liquid onto the mattress in the back and lights it with a match.

The suspect dashes away as the truck catches fire.

In the meantime, on Wednesday, Police Minister Bheki Cele revealed during a press briefing that they have identified 12 individuals responsible for these truck arson incidents across the country.

Cele stated that these attacks were coordinated by a specific group.

He further informed that the National Intelligence Coordinating Committee (Nicoc) convened on Tuesday to address this issue.

However, he dismissed any possibility of a connection between the truck torchings and the unrest of July 2021.

“[They] have been identified by names, some of them by address, and some of them by the vehicles they own,” he conveyed during a briefing in Pretoria on Wednesday.

Over the course of four days, a total of 21 trucks have been set on fire in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, and Mpumalanga.
