Property Mogul Shafiq Naser Shot Dead In Cape Town

A Palestinian property developer Shafiq Naser is dead after two gunmen on motorbikes fired several shots at him in peak-hour traffic close to his home in Sandrift, Milnerton.

The killing of Shafiq Naser comes almost a year after his brother, Abdel Fattah Nassar, was shot dead in a gun battle near the V&A Waterfront.

Nassar is believed to have been involved in the Israeli underworld and had, according to reports, sought refuge in Cape Town from the gangland killings in that country.

Naser owned Naser Construction, based at Century City, and had been involved in the development of buildings in and around Cape Town according to filings with the City Council.

Insiders close to the investigation, who did not want to be named, told News24 that Nasser had been out of the country and returned on Tuesday evening.

A shootout ensued after two unknown men on a motorbike shot at the businessman. He fired back.

The incident took place over a distance of more than 500 metres, sources said.

Nasser had been on his way to a business meeting at the time of the shooting.

According to Nasser’s brother, nobody knew he was returning on Tuesday.

Sources told News24 that Nasser had sustained gunshot wounds to his head and cheek.

By late on Wednesday afternoon, police said the matter was still under investigation and that nobody had, as yet, been arrested.

Video footage of the incident shows two men stopping at the traffic lights next to a Mercedes G-Wagon. Once the light turns green, the two men make a U-turn, circle next to the vehicle, and open fire.

Nasser was found with a large amount of money in his possession at the time of the shooting, sources said.

It’s understood he had gone to the bank before the incident.
