President Ramaphosa happy for DJ Black Coffee for filling up Madison Square in USA

President Cyril Ramaphosa has congratulated Black Coffee on becoming the first artist in Mzansi to perform at New York’s Madison Square Garden in America.

Real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, Black Coffee reached another milestone as he became the only South African deejay and producer to host a sold-out event at Madison Square on Saturday.

“Congratulations to Black Coffee for being the first South African DJ to perform at Madison Square Garden in New York City, USA, to a sold-out show this past Saturday. South African artists continue to distinguish themselves and promote our talents on the global stage. We thank you for flying the national flag,” said Ramaphosa.

KwaZulu Natal premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube also praised Black Coffee for making the country proud. “On behalf of the people of KZN, we would like to join the rest of South Africans and the world in congratulating one of our own, DJ Black Coffee. He didn’t do it for us only as KZN but for the rest of the nation, Africa and beyond. We are very proud of him, his management, and the supporting artists who performed with him last night. Madison Square Garden is indeed a global theatre where artistic dreams are realised,” Dube-Ncube said. She added that the DJ’s star keeps rising.

“This is a nice follow-up to his 2016 BET Award and last year’s Grammy Award in the dance/electronic album category, and other accolades in between. We thank him for being a shining star and a positive influence on youth and upcoming artists. Indeed, he is our goodwill ambassador and one of our finest exports,’ Dube-Ncube said. In a post after the event, Black Coffee posted: “We did it!” And yes indeed, he did it!
