Music Is Like Having Tlof Tlof

DJ LOTUS Mae is the slay queen of Afro-tech house.

The music enthusiast, whose real name is Ntsamaeng Moseamedi (25), has women in house music envious, and men bobbing their heads to her fresh soulful sounds.

Lotus Mae found her love for music in 2016 and she took it upon herself to study the craft.

She majored in music composition, production, sound engineering and music business at Central Johannesburg College.

She said she was inspired by DJ Kinetic to pursue deejaying.

“Kinetic was a DJ and content producer for YFM. He gave me the low-down on how the industry works and from that conversation with him, I was sure this was what I wanted to do,” Lotus said.

She scored her first DJ residency with Chesa Nyama Braamfontien in 2017. But her real break into the entertainment industry was when she joined Cobra Tycoon Online Radio, which is now known as Opulence Online Radio.

Lotus Mae’s describes her Afro-tech sound as “a fusion of African beats mixed with techno music”.

“Music is the theatre of the mind. It paints pictures using sound and it’s like having sex in a way but better,” she said.

As a young black female DJ, she has curated playlists for Paradise Sound System on Spotify, gaining recognition from international artists such as Frankawara, a music producer from the Canary Island, who opened doors for other international artists paying attention to her work.

Lotus Mae is working on her debut EP called Phases. It will be available on all digital platforms from July 2023.
