Stadium issues delay PSL 2024 kick-off

The 2024 Zimbabwe Premiership football season will now begin on March 9, with football officials citing stadium safety and sufficiency as reasons for the postponement.

Kudzai Bare, Premier Soccer League Communications and Media Liaison Officer, confirmed the postponement in the dissemination of domestic topflight football calendars on Monday.

“All stakeholders are advised that the 2024 Castle Lager PSL Championship will commence on the 9th of March. This has been necessitated by the need to ensure that we have safe, secure and adequate venues to hosts Castle Lager PSL matches,” Bare said.

Premiership football was set to commence on 2 March 2024 with the highlight of Match Day 1 being the blockbuster clash between old rivals Highlanders and Dynamos in Bulawayo.

Another highlight of the 2024 premiership season is the return of highly rated former Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs attacker Khama Billiat who has signed for ambitious Harare outfit Yadah FC with a record wage of US$5,000.

Local football shall also see a welcome reopening of Harare’s Rufaro Stadium for football matches.

The iconic stadium which is football of memories about some of the country’s epic battles has been closed since 2019 for renovations to meet PSL standards.
