The property of former Gokwe Nembudziya legislator Justice Mayor Wadyajena, which was confiscated by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) and forfeited following his arrest on charges of fraud and money laundering, has been ordered to be released by the High Court of Zimbabwe.
Wadyajena, who was charged with embezzling money intended for the purchase of bale cables from the Cotton Company of Zimbabwe, has been given permission to reclaim his 25 haulage trucks as well as two opulent vehicles, a customized BMW X6M and a Lamborghini Urus.
The High Court ruling, delivered on Wednesday, declared the continued seizure of Wadyajena’s property as unlawful and ordered ZACC to release the property forthwith. Wadyajena’s lawyer, Mr. Oliver Marwa, hailed the ruling as an “important victory” in the fight against his client and the State.
This development comes after Wadyajena and his co-accused successfully applied to be removed from remand last year, citing unnecessary delays in completing investigations.
