Let’s Unite Against Racism: Ramaphosa

Racists must expect harsh consequences. That’s the word from President Cyril Ramaphosa.
He was reacting to the alleged racist incident at a Free State holiday resort on Christmas Day.
The assault, widely circulated on social media, shows black teenagers being attacked by white adult men.
It’s claimed the boys were not allowed to swim in a pool reserved only for whites at the resort.
Ramaphosa says people must unite to rid society of the violence seen in the video, whether it stems from racism or not.

At the same time, Tourism Minister Lindiwe Sisulu expressed utter disgust at the incident. She says incidents of this nature negatively impact the sector, which is recovering well post-pandemic.
Meanwhile, police say they are investigating a case of assault.
No arrests have been made so far.
The department of Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs in the Free State will be meeting with the resort’s management.
A group of people including EFF members have since gathered at the resort in protest.
