Video Of Suspected ZANU PF Activists Attacking Elderly People Sparks Outrage
A video of alleged Zanu PF members brutally assaulting elderly men and women in Murehwa for attending a Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) meeting has gone viral, indicating that the year’s harmonised elections may be incredibly hard.
A woman is heard questioning the elderly villagers present at the meeting in the video that one of the attackers is said to have recorded, asking them why they would join the opposition “at their age.”
The police have since received a report.
Speaking on behalf of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), Paul Nyathi said that inquiries were ongoing.
“The ZRP has taken note of a video which has gone viral on social media on alleged political violence in Murehwa North. Investigations are now in progress. More details will be released in due course,” said Nyathi.
CCC spokesperson Fadzayi condemned the attack saying desperation in the ruling party was shameful.
“Nhai vene, kana muchidiwa sei muchirova anasekuru nanaambuya vedu#Ibotso.
She also said, “This violent orgy happened at the home of Change Champion Seremani, an elderly citizen who was assaulted by ZANU PF.
“We have taken steps to ensure that those who were assaulted obtain medical attention. A police report has been made. We condemn this violence and unlawfulness.
“ ZANU PF is terrified of CCC penetration of rural communities and is panicking,” she said.

Murehwa is one of ZANU PF’s strongholds.
ZANU PF Director for information Tafadzwa Mugwadi has denied the involvement of his party saying police should arrest the perpetrators.
“I have just seen violent & horrible scenes in a video circulating targeted at some villagers. This should be condemned by every sober human being created in the Image of God and all our eyes should be on the next steps ZRP takes to deal with this matter.
“On its part, ZANU PF does not tolerate any barbaric criminal conduct. Our philosophy of mobilisation is simple but powerful- Nyika Inovakwa Navene Vayo which has become a national chorus. President
@edmnangagwa has clearly & unequivocally set the record clear on peaceful and violence-free elections. Whoever commits acts of violence in the name of the Party shall carry his or her cross and account. Let the @PoliceZimbabwe do what they know best- investigations”
