Zimsec speaks on viral 2022 “O” Level results suspension

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) has finally responded to online reports alleging that the 2022 “O” Level results were compromised due to widespread examination paper leakage.

The viral reports that the Ordinary Level results for 2022 have been nullified have been dismissed as false.

Speaking to act-checking website ZimFact, Nicky Dhlamini, the entity’s spokesperson and PR Manager said this was not true, and that there was no official statement to that effect.

After the online rumours went viral and scared students and parents, the examination board was forced to address them. According to reports, the results were cancelled due to widespread leakage of “O” Level examination papers.

According to one such report,

ZIMSEC Ordinary Level Results might never see the light of the day

“The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) board has made an announcement that Ordinary level results may not be released due to widespread leakage that occurred last year. Of the exams that were marked, most students were getting 90% or above.

“The pass rate sits at 99.90%.

“‘We won’t release these Ordinary Level results and are declared null and void,’ said ZIMSEC spokesperson Nicky Dhlamini.”

Some “O” Level  examination papers, particularly those in English and Mathematics, were confirmed to have leaked. Over 100 people were arrested across the country for illegally accessing or disseminating the papers.

Only those whose cheating was proven would have their results thrown out and nullified, according to authorities.

After the Advanced Level results were released last week, the “O” Level results are expected to be released soon.
