The River Cancelled After 5 Year Run

Fan favourite telenovela The River has been cancelled after a successful five-year run.

There has been speculation that the telenovela was going to be cancelled after it was not renewed for season 7.

Entertainment commentator Phil Mphela however finally confirmed the cancellation of The River on his Twitter account.

Phil Mphela revealed that season 6 is going to be the last season of The River.

The last season is going to start airing on the 6th of February.

In a statement, the Director of Local Entertainment Channels at M-Net, Shirley Adonisi applauded the cast and producers of the show for producing an excellent telenovela. She promised viewers that The River’s finale is going to be action-packed.

“At M-Net Local Entertainment Channels we would like to extend our most sincere gratitude to the cast and crew of The River for a memorable five years. Their hard work, dedication and brilliance have led to the telenovela’s success. The final season is going to be the show’s most epic one yet. The drama will be bigger and better, setting the stage for the ultimate finale,” she said.

The Executive Producer at Tshedza Pictures, Phathu Makwarela, said that when they created the telenovela they wanted it to have a definite ending.

He said that they saw it fit to end The River in season 6 because they felt it was the right time to do so. Phathu said that they wanted to end the show on their own terms.

“When we created The River seven years ago, we knew that we wanted to tell a story that will have a definite ending. Now on its sixth season, we feel the time is right to bring the story of these beloved characters to an end, on our own terms and when viewers still treasure the show. As the saying goes, a good dancer always knows when to leave the stage, and now it’s that time for The River is Season 6,” Phathu Makwarela said.
