Elizabeth Remembers Tsvangirai Who Died On Valentine’s Day

Elizabeth Macheka decided to honour her late husband Morgan Tsvangirai on Valentine’s Day, which also happened to be his death anniversary.

Morgan Tsvangirai, the late founding leader of the opposition MDC party, died on February 14, 2018, after a long battle with colon cancer. Yesterday marked the fifth anniversary of his death.

Elizabeth Tsvangirai posted a heartfelt tribute message to her late husband on Instagram. Elizabeth recalled visiting Morgan Tsvangirai in the hospital during his final days.

Elizabeth revealed that sometimes Morgan Tsvangirai would refuse to eat or take his medicine because he was missing her.

“Happy 5th anniversary, dear Morgan, Reminiscing on how I used to visit you in your last days. Where there’s love, there’s always a way. I sometimes look at the pictures of your last days and the videos I used to send you whenever doctors called me to tell me you were boycotting food or medicine because you missed me .”

She said that sometimes she disguised herself as a sick patient on a stretcher just to spend more time with him in the hospital.

“I am always in awe of how courageous our love was. I sometimes had to be disguised as a sick patient on a stretcher or sometimes in a wheelchair 🤭and had to pass through the hospital morgue side only to be with you from midnight until dawn. Now I am able to talk and laugh about it because God made a way for us.”

Morgan Tsvangirai’s widow went on to thank doctors and nurses who took care of her husband when he was hospitalized. She quoted a Bible verse from Corinthians 13:4-7 which talks about how love never gives up.

I am forever grateful for the doctors and nurses who not only did everything they can to keep you alive and comfortable. They also understood our love story and would do everything to make sure we see each other every day because they saw us together from the time of our diagnosis, right up to the end. It may be for this reason that The Lord saw it fit to take you on this day of love because you were a selfless, loving person who put other people’s needs first before your own. In the words of St Paul the Apostle in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 “Love suffers long and it is kind. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful and endures through every circumstance.

She ended her tribute by wishing her late husband a heavenly Valentine’s Day.
