Nellie Tembe’s Death My Be Linked To AKA’s Death: SAPS

The South African Police Services (SAPS) has confirmed some of the alarming social media assumptions involving the Friday night shooting of rapper AKA.

AKA was shot on Friday night with his long-time friend and associate Tebello Motsoane, popularly known as Tibz, by unidentified assailants.

In a statement released Tuesday morning, KwaZulu-Natal police commissioner Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi confirmed social media speculation that AKA’s shooting was an assassination.

According to Lieutenant-General Mkhwanazi, based on the evidence gathered so far, AKA’s death was an assassination.

“From the evidence that we have collected, we have no doubt. From what we have seen as the police is that two criminals walked across the street. There is one that walked first and stood on the side of the road. Another one walked around the car, and he shot only AKA behind his ear. He did not shoot the friend that was with him.”

Social media has also speculated that there is a connection between AKA’s shooting and the death of his then-fiancee, Anele “Nellie” Tembe, iHarare states.

Speaking to Newzroom Afrika, Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi confirmed that there is a possibility that the two incidents are related, and police are looking into it.

“For now, we can’t link anything with the murder. However, our interest is to try and establish as to who would have wanted this man dead. So who was his enemy? We know the incident that happened in Cape Town. So that’s why when immediately when the incident happened, it’s part of our investigation strategy as we’re establishing all potential enemies of the deceased. The incident in Cape Town will definitely anger some people blaming him for being the cause of such death that happened in Cape Town,” Mkhwanazi said.

He also confirmed that they are looking at his friends as well. Social media detectives have singled out one of AKA’s friends as a suspect based on CCTV footage doing the rounds.
