Another Inter Africa bus carrying Emmanuel High Students Crashes

An Inter Africa bus that was carrying Emmanuel High School students was involved in an accident along Nyanga-Ruvangwa Road this Monday afternoon near the infamous Regina Coeli Bus Disaster scene, injuring 15 students.

This is the second accident in under 48 hours after another bus from the same company was burnt to scrape on Sunday.

Inter Africa had an accident with 43 Pakame High students on board and burnt.

Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Norbet Muzondo confirmed today’s accident saying only a few students were injured.

These successive accidents have raised concern as parents worry about their children’s safety as schools reopen.

Forty-three passengers, including school learners, had a narrow escape yesterday when an Inter Africa bus caught fire near Battlefield, between Kwekwe and Kadoma.

The incident occurred around midday, leaving most of the passengers’ belongings destroyed and some with minor injuries.

According to eyewitnesses, the fire started from the bus engine and quickly engulfed the vehicle, reducing it to a shell. Efforts to put out the flames failed, and passengers had to scramble to exit the bus through windows and the door.

Police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the incident to The Herald, adding that the value of goods lost was still to be quantified.

We can confirm the fire accident involving a bus this afternoon (yesterday), where passengers lost their luggage,” he said. “But we are still to get details.”

One of the passengers Paradzai Makombe said no one could salvage anything from the burning vehicle.

It was so sudden that we only managed to stampede out of the bus, leaving everything behind. Only a few used the door, the majority of people jumped through windows, with some sustaining minor burns,” he recounted.
